First episode of "Soundtrack of the Day"

I love video games. But more  than games I’ve always appreciated the soundtracks behind them. In the 80’s and 90’s producers were limited by the sounds they could reproduce due to the somewhat archaic hardware and software of the time, yet they were still able to create some of the most memorable melodies of my childhood.

With that in mind, I thought it was appropriate that I share with you some of the highlights from my memories. I’ve mind the vast depths of the internet to deliver to you (on a somewhat frequent basis) soundtracks from games which have stood the test of time and continue to float around in my mind. Just think, the next time we have a conversation one of these songs is probably playing in my head.

Say all you want about how poor of a game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was on the NES, and the fact that it had absolutely nothing to do with the canon of the series, there is no denying that the soundtrack was the game’s highlight.  I plan on showcasing one track at a time in this series, but after finding this melodic gem this morning I felt it was only appropriate to showcase more than 1 song in a sitting.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the soundtracks as we move along. Did you enjoy this game? How about the music?

Bonus: Here’s some more info on the PC port of TMNT 1, which I found is physically impossible to beat.
