My side scrolling 2D shmup, Super Rawr-Type, is finally available for the browser!

UPDATE: It not works in all desktop browsers! It will not work on mobile devices, however.

This project is open source!

The music belongs to Kevin Phensompsu, and can be found on his YouTube account. Contact him before using it.

I plan on updating the GitHub code soon, once I ca figure out how to upload my code again. I’ve recently formatted my computer, and have been unable to link the two.
The Windows 8 port is completely done, but I’m waiting on an issue with my developer account to get corrected before I can upload it. Hopefully that will be done within the next few days, and available in the Windows 8 Store!

I’ve written a number of tutorials on how I put this game together as well, in addition to the porting process, so be sure to take a look at those too. So what’s next for me now? I’ll probably continue with my love of bullet hells, and start building one in either Unity or go back to the Unreal Engine. Decisions decisions…..

  1. Are you loading sounds with an * like “/media/sounds/mysound.*” and supplying a .ogg & .mp3 file? I have a feeling Chrome is choking on the sound files. Chrome requires ogg files. You can use Audacity, which is free, to batch convert the mp3s into ogg files. Let me know if that helps.

    • I thought it was that as well. All of my audio files are added as .mp3, .ogg, and *.

I’ve tried reversing the order in which the engine checks for the audio format (was ogg then .mp3), as that resolved an issue a few months back. I’ve just tried switching it back to the original way, and it’s the same issue.

    • It will start on a mobile browser, but it is veeeery sluggish, and has no audio.

I should probably change that screen for the web version, as you really need to press ENTER or SPACEBAR to advance that screen. It was left over from the Win8 version. Sorry!

      • Okay, it seems to be running on Firefox now and I was able to start the game with Enter. Nice little shooter. It really takes me back to playing games like this on the SNES. You should consider entering game jams like Ludum Dare. It’s a lot of fun. 😀

  2. I really need to get back into game jams again.

I’ve been short on time lately, and just moved for work, but I think in the next few weeks things should open up fro me!

    Thank you!
