How to livestream any piece of hardware on Twitch (consoles, too!)

OK I lied. I still don’t have a way of capturing RF out from your TurboGrafx. But everything else works fine, (especially old consoles) I’ve tried it!

In this video I show you how to use a capture card, such as AverMedia’s Live Gamer Extreme in tandem with OBS (Open Broadcast Software) to record and stream from various pieces of hardware to Twitch. In this case, I use the Playstation 4, as I’ve been playing lots of Uncharted 4 this week.

There are very few tutorials on how to do this, so I thought I would save everyone else the trouble of trying to figure it out for themselves.

What you’ll need:

  • Capture card (such as an AverMedia or El Gato device)
  • Console (such as PS4)
  • OBS CLASSIC (NOT the studio version — this WILL NOT WORK)

I also have a list of useful and free streaming tools for Twitch.

NOTE: On the PS4, you need to disable HDCP.

This is valuable not only for gamers, but also for developers who would like to show off their content. You can find me streaming all of the time at Twitch.tv/DaveVoyles
